JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Sommelier you are responsible in maintaining and updating of the wine list by ensuring that is it current. In addition, you are required to enhance the guests’ dining experience by recommending wines that will complement the chosen dish.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SOMMELIER:
Ensure that the wine list is updated when necessary and to ensure that the prices stated are accurate and up-to-date
Responsible for maintaining proper par stock
To ensure that storage facility for wines is kept organised and neat
Maximise revenue through sales by up selling, staff training and motivation techniques
Ensure that wine service is carried out to industry standards
REQUIREMENTS OF A SOMMELIER:
Must possess previous working experience in a similar capacity
Added advantage if previous work experience was with a fine dining environment
Must be a team player and be willing to conform to the company’s culture and able to lead by example
Must be able to distinguish between priorities and importance
Must be responsible and uncompromising in achieving the company’s goals and standards
Must be able to speak fluent English and posses the ability to communicate effectively with the kitchen and floor team
Must be able to stay clam under pressure
Must possess intermediate WSET or equivalent Sommelier qualifications
